National Center for Camel Research in India
The National Camel Research Center is a research institution established in the Bikaner region of Rajasthan in the country of India in 1984, under the umbrella of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). The center aims at basic and applied research to improve the health and production of camels, establishing a digital repository of information related to camel research and development, as well as developing camel-related eco-tourism.
The center focuses on the conservation and development of local camel breeds and conducts research in various areas related to camels, including nutrition, reproduction, and health. Camels are an essential part of the local population’s life in the Bikaner region, where they rely on camels for transportation, agriculture, as a source of food, and income.
The center houses a team of researchers and experts specializing in camels who work diligently to develop new camel breeds that are disease-resistant and adaptable to harsh environmental conditions. Through collaboration with international research institutions, the center seeks to exchange expertise and knowledge in this field. The center publishes the results of its research in specialized scientific journals and organizes specialized scientific conferences and seminars in the field of camels.
One of the center’s notable initiatives is the Community Awareness Program, where the center provides guidance to herders and farmers on the best practices for camel care and utilization. Additionally, the center offers training courses to educate young people in the art of camel care and breeding.
