The first woman to work in camel breeding in North Africa

Imane Rezgui is a young Tunisian woman who was the first woman in North Africa to choose a camel breeding profession despite her harsh and demanding environment. Rizki was supported by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), an international financial institution and specialized agency of the United Nations dedicated to poverty eradication.

Although camel breeding is a male tradition or reserved for men, Iman Rezgui has overcome challenges and achieved remarkable success. She proved that ambition, determination and courage can make dreams come true, and this is what Iman has done with her achievements that inspire young people of both sexes in the world.

Imane Rezgui has been continuously active in civil society, becoming a member of the Ben Guerdane Retailers Association. The association was originally formed with the aim of combating illegal border trade. When Imane learned about the Entrepreneurs’ Support Fund, an IFAD-funded program aimed at investing in Tunisia’s rural population and helping women, young graduates and professional organizations start or expand businesses, Imane Rezgui submitted a proposal to set up a camel breeding business. The project was approved, and Eman Rizki contributed her savings and personal funds to launch the project, while the Fund provided additional financial support.
