The organizing committee for camel racing in Qatar is the main supervisory body for this deeply rooted traditional sport in the state of Qatar. This committee is chaired by Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Faisal Al Thani. The committee believes that camel racing in Qatar is more than just a sport; it represents a part of the Arab heritage and culture and reflects the spirit and national identity of the State of Qatar.

The committee acknowledges that this sport began modestly in the past, held informally and on a limited scale during national holidays and wedding celebrations, often accompanied by artistic displays that reflected the popular and Bedouin culture. Over time, the committee noted significant development in camel racing. In 1973, the first official race was held in the Al Furat area, and since then, races have taken place at the Al Shahaniya track, a comprehensive facility featuring a main platform, a veterinary hospital, and stables for camels. The committee witnessed a significant transformation in camel racing in 2004 when it transitioned from human jockeys to mechanical jockeys.

With the advancement of technology, the committee launched the “Electronic Race Program” on its website. Through this unique electronic service, camel owners can create personal profiles to register their camels and their participation in races. Registration for races can also be done electronically. All of this is aimed at providing maximum convenience, streamlining the process for participants, and reducing time and costs. The committee also rewards participants with prestigious prizes.

This sport enjoys significant support and attention from the Qatari leadership, as both the former Amir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, and the current Amir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, make it a point to attend its celebrations and festivals.
